Experience

Hi, my name is Tracy. I live on a lifestyle block in Newstead, close to Silverdale and Hillcrest, with my sons, our dog and cats, as well as cows and chickens.

I began my journey as a home-based educator over 10 years ago so that I could be at home with my children when they were young. What started as a practical choice quickly became a true passion for early childhood education that has built lasting relationships with the children in my care and their whānau, creating a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment where tamariki feel valued, supported, and inspired to learn.

Home Environment

My playspace is a warm, welcoming environment designed to inspire creativity, curiosity, and imaginative play. It features a wide range of quality handcrafted resources that I have made myself, including large hollow blocks, puppets, puzzles, magnetic mix and match toys, and giant 3D dinosaur skeletons. These open-ended materials encourage children to explore, problem-solve, and develop their own ideas through play.

The outdoor environment offers a spacious, shaded area where children can engage in active play and physical challenges. Opportunities include bike riding, painting, climbing on a challenge course, water play, and exploring a dedicated mud kitchen and sensory play area. I value the importance of hands-on learning and sensory experiences, and messy play is embraced as an essential part of children's development, encouraging creativity, exploration, confidence, and a love of learning.

Community Involvement

As part of our programme, children have regular opportunities to attend our local playgroup and connect with other educators and tamariki. These experiences help children build confidence in social settings, develop friendships, learn to cooperate with others, and gain a sense of belonging within their wider community.

We also enjoy regular outings to local parks, playgrounds, and natural environments where children can explore, discover, and learn through hands-on experiences. Time spent in nature encourages curiosity, problem-solving, creativity, and physical development, while supporting an appreciation and respect for the natural world. These excursions provide rich learning opportunities that complement children's interests and extend their learning beyond the home environment.

Childcare Philosophy

I value working in partnership with families, incorporating their goals, aspirations, and values into each child's learning journey. Through meaningful, child-led play experiences, children are supported to develop confidence, creativity, problem-solving skills, and a strong sense of belonging. Free play provides opportunities to recognise and celebrate the diverse cultures, languages, and identities of all tamariki, ensuring every child feels respected and valued. Learning experiences are tailored to support children of all ages and stages, fostering positive relationships, inclusion, and a love of learning within a nurturing and culturally responsive environment.
