Experience

Hi, my name is Maree and I have been doing home-based childcare for 25+ years now. I have 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren. My family is everything to me so I value the trust that is put in me to care for other people's children. I strive to provide a welcoming, nurturing home away from home environment for the children in my care and the relationships that I build with the children and their families are very important to me.

Home Environment

I live down a quiet cul de sac with a park next door to me. I have good-sized comfortable indoor space with lots of toys, books, and puzzles to keep the children busy and engaged while learning through play.
My outside space has plenty of room for adventures with a sandpit, mud kitchen, climbing frame and lots of ride ons' to provide hours of outside fun.
Some of our regular at home activities include art-based activities and baking. I have lots of books for us to enjoy quiet times together and I have lots of toys for the children to enjoy. In summer we enjoy water play and messy play outside.
I allow plenty of time for child led play as I believe that this is important learning time as they explore, play and learn through doing things that they are interested in.
If a child has a particular interest in something I will find resources to support their interest.

Community Involvement

I attend the weekly Edubase Playgroup and Edubase Gym sessions. We also join other Educators on playdates, visits to local parks and nature walks, encouraging friendships to develop within the wider Kids At Home and Edubase family.

Childcare Philosophy

It is important to me to provide a safe, nurturing home away from home environment for the children in my care. I want to provide a space where children know that I recognise, respect, and value their wairua (spirit) and all the things that make them unique.
I believe that building meaningful, reciprocal relationships with the children's families are an important part of the work that I do as I see the home space and the daycare space as working together to ensure the best outcome for the child.
I value Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tikanga Māori and try to see that this is represented within the daycare environment.
I continue to be open to new learning, staying up to date with new practices around the care of children.
