Experience

I am a mum of 5 and a Nana to 12 wonderful grandchildren who loves coastal living, fishing, gardening and spending time with my family. My husband and I are heavily involved in our wonderful community and I have been a Home-Based Educator for over 30 years working with families in Whitianga and in my wider community ever since my own children were young.

Home Environment

I have a large open backyard that offers unlimited play with a fort, water play area and garden forest paths for children to explore and little creatures to find. My home is a home which allows children to feel safe and explore. I set up daily activities in the playroom which they have the freedom to explore on their own, allowing choice and cooperation with their peers.
I provide a wide range of activities based on each child's own interests, from arts and crafts, gardening, music, baking, transportation and more.

Community Involvement

As a small group, we regularly visit local beaches, reserves, parks, community bike parks, music and movement, library and the local retirement village encouraging empathy and inter-generational learning.

Childcare Philosophy

My Philosophy is centered on creating a warm, nurturing environment where tamariki feel safe, valued and connected. I follow children's interests, embracing child-led and spontaneous play as meaningful ways for learning to unfold. I value time spent in our community and in nature, fostering a love and respect for Papatūānuku and encouraging kaitiakitanga. at the heart of Home-Based ECE, we nurture the foundation of being a good human, respect, kindness, communication, manners and unity. while supporting tamariki to grow as confident, caring and capable individuals.
